Fingerweaving Classes
At the Musée de St-Boniface Museum
If you live in the Winnipeg area and are looking for a great opportunity to learn fingerweaving, this might be what you have been looking for. Carol James teaches a fingerweaving class at the Musée de St-Boniface Museum twice a year with one class in the spring another in the fall. These classes consist of seven weekly sessions and are open to anyone aged sixteen and up.
Carol's fingerweaving class features a step by step learning program. During each of the first six weeks, the students will be introduced to a new, more complex pattern and have the opportunity to practice it by weaving a leg tie. During the final class, Carol will show the students how to set up and begin weaving a sash. The goal is for each student to be able to begin weaving their own sash at the end of the seven weeks. Yarn for this sash will be available at cost from Carol.
Class sizes will always be kept small so as to maintain a good student to teacher ratio and allow for more personalized instruction. Intensive, one-on-one instruction will also be available whenever possible. Carol will be demonstrating the most common mistakes including why they occur, how to identify them and different ways of fixing them.
The cost of the class is $150.00 per person, which includes high quality wool for six leg ties and a copy of 'Fingerweaving Untagled', Carol's instructional book. As mentioned above, yarn for a sash is extra and not included in the price of the class. Yarn costs for the average sash will fall somewhere around $20.00. Those interested in fingerweaving classes should contact the Musée de St-Boniface Museum for more information.
